About Us

My career as a crafter and entrepreneur began at age 10.
I sold handmade potholders to the patrons of my mother's beauty shop while they sat under the dryer or waited their turns. From then on I was hooked on earning money from
my creative endeavors.
More than that, I was resourceful. I learned new crafts at the local YWCA or Girl Scout meetings. Each time I learned to embroider towels or make terry cloth slippers I added the new item to my offerings. By investing in supplies from the local Woolworth's I always had a variety of homemade crafts to sell to my "patrons" the next weekend.
From then on, I was hooked on being an entrepreneur. A few years later, while other girls my age were listening to Elvis Presley albums, I was scheming and thinking of ways to be creative--sometimes for pay, other times for the experience.
Then I took what seemed like a detour from entrepreneurship by combining my love of creativity, research, writing into a teaching career. Although I taught junior high school English and Reading, coauthored two language arts series, trained and supervised teachers, it wasn't long before my entrepreneur urgings took hold again. This time I left my career as a university professor of Secondary Education at Cal State University, Northridge to open my own tutoring program to help students master reading, free of the entanglement of bureaucracy.
While expecting my first chid, I taught myself to knit. There was a learning curve since now I was using two needles instead of just one as in crocheting. But with the help of the clerks in yarn stores and lots of practice, I was churning out baby booties, sweaters and blankies for my newborn.
As a wife and mother of four, I wove creative activities throughout our lives.
Today, I teach critical thinking at Fullerton College in Fullerton, CA and help gift basket designers, florists and retailers capture corporate accounts, find suppliers, improve design techniques, and run successful small businesses.
As a consultant, writer and professional speaker, I motivate gift retailers to establish credibility, project a polished image, find a niche, shop wisely for inventory, use affordable marketing strategies, sell more products and attract repeat business.
Here you will find information about the many crafts that have taken hold across the country: knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking and others. Whether you use these crafts for relaxation, as a source of gifts for friends and family or a source of income, you'll find the resources and motivation you need.
Enjoy!
