Make a Winning Combination
Crafts and gift basket design are often thought of as separate endeavors. There are differences, of course. But gift basket designers can benefit by learning from and getting involved in crafts for a number of reasons:
1. You can keep up with the trends in crafts such as fabric painting and paper art since these techniques will appear on the gifts, textiles and products you'll buy for gift baskets.
2. You will learn about new supplies that can help you assemble gift baskets or better adhere products since many of these are introduced in the craft industry first.
3. You will discover new ways to turn an ordinary design into a custom theme. I recently was asked to create a design to celebrate the 20th anniversary of a local YMCA. I created a 5" x 7" greeting on my computer using the YMCA's logo as background, placed it in an 8 x 10" frame with appropriate matting. This custom greeting was the focal point in the center of the design surrounded with gourmet foods and beverages.
